Project Proposal #3
GRADE: I expect to earn an "A" after completion of this project
Project Proposal Format
Your Name: DOROTHY OLIVER-SCOTT
Project Title: Buy-in of targets
Project Focus: SUPPORTING TECHNOLOGY (Focus 3)
Project Description: The project is a Staff Development Training using technology. It will have teachers create a Power Point Lesson Plan on a science project of titled Bacteria and Viruses. It is important because this will allow teachers to have a facilitator present to guide the creation of the Power Point alleviating their fears of using technology alone without technological support. I chose it because it is a use of technology that people seen to enjoy once they complete it. I expect to learn how to facilitate a technological training workshop. I expect to aid teachers with easy transition to technology by using a Power Point. I hope to bring the laggar to innovative status.
Project Artifacts:
1. I will anticipate questions write them down and have answers for inquirers.
2. Log of computers with notation line for information ie. No power point, mouse not working, etc.
3. Outline of standard lesson plan
Project Timeline:
I will start work on this project on January 29th and complete by March 15, 2007
Many educators find it difficult to use technology not only in their classrooms but in their personal life. As an administrator priority must be with introducing educators to the many uses of technology with hands on instruction. Educators must be in control of their teaching practices/strategies, tools, and knowledge. To give them the control, provide equipment that is up-to-date and complete. That is, often technology is introduced, but something is missing. New programs are implemented without the equipment and/or materials "they are on back-order"; or "only half the order arrived", the trainers had to reschedule. These events ALWAYS lose any interest and buy-in supporters of technology would have enjoyed.
Therefore, when the supporter of technology is ready to present, it is crucial that all equipment, materials and instructors/trainers are in place. What is more discouraging and frustrating, than to buy a PC come home and find that a needed EEEE cord did not come with it. Your first experience and thought in this situation is to take the entire unit back to the store; but since the PC is set up and need or want it you return to the store purchasing all that you need. People who have functioned without the PC and do not want it will take it back. This means if you are supporting technology have everything a novice will need to start working immediately with the items. Have them start working with the technology immediately following the presentation/instruction.
Instruction must be given in an environment where hands on manipulation of the new equipment/materials can be used and demonstrated. Learners need immediate feedback on whether or not they are doing something correctly. A superior supporter of technology wants to aid and provide immediate assistance and feedback. When an administrator/supporter of technology wants their project to succeed they must provide for total learning instruction, implementation, and assessment.
#3
Supporting the use of technology this week I have been sending all notes to my peers using publisher. The response has been "what are you doing" and where do you find time to do this"? Teachers are developing the interest that I want them too, for the project I am planning in March.
